Activity Notes

Day climb of the present highest peak in the southern Oregon Cascades, after Mt Mazama blew its top 7,700 years ago. The climb is exploratory in that the route will be new to your climb leader. According to Barbara Bond's "75 Scrambles in Oregon: Best Nontechnical Ascents," the round-trip distance is 11 miles, the elevation gain is 3,900', and there is lots of scrambling over rocks and boulders. Folks age 8+ with good knees are most welcome to apply. The climb is on a Thursday; the Wednesday and Friday are travel days since the trailhead is 5-6 hours from Portland. Those on this climb will be welcome to car-camp for a nominal fee at nearby Lake of the Woods Wednesday and/or Thursday nights.
