Activity Notes

Redstone Peak is a challenging 3rd class climb with complex route finding near the summit.  It is located off the Northern Loop Trail in Mt Rainier National Park south of Lake James.  This is NOT a good first climb for recent BCEP graduates. Team members should have previous experience on at least 3 rock climbs.    I have not done this climb, so it will be exploratory- expect some adventurous confusion.

Itinerary (tentative- depends if we can get an overnight wilderness permit).

Sept. 6 : meet at Eleanor Creek parking lot on the north boundary of Mt Rainier National Park.  Backpack ~8.5 miles to the West Fork of the White River on the Northern Loop Trail and camp in the wilderness zone north of the trail (~3200' elevation loss).

Sept. 7:  climb Redstone Peak (~2480' from camp) and return to camp.  If we get down early enough team members may pack out the same day.

Sept. 8:  Walk out to cars and return to Portland, arriving late afternoon / evening.
