Commonly done during the Basic Climbing Education Program (BCEP), this hike is a good conditioner for climbing Mt. Hood as well as practicing rope team travel and crampon techniques.

Activity Notes

We'll wake up after spending the night at the Mazama Lodge and make the call about where to hike on Sunday. Options include hiking from the Timberline Day Lodge to the top of the Palmer Snowfield and practicing some of the skills that were taught on Saturday or continuing higher up to either Illumination Saddle or the base of Crater Rock. If the weather looks horrible, we may hike from Mazama Lodge up the West Leg Road to Timberline Lodge through the forest.

If you have snow shoes, feel free to bring them, but they will not be required. We will likely plan to do some rope team travel as well.
