Activity Notes

A long hike up Boulder Ridge to Huckleberry & Wildcat Mountains. The ridge includes several meadows with nice views of the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness (weather permitting). Total stats are 17 miles and 4800' of vertical gain. We will move at a minimum of 2 mph uphill starting with a 3000' climb over the first 5 miles – this hike will be very demanding!

We'll meet at the Boulder Ridge trailhead at the Wildwood Recreation Site off of US-26 at 7:00 AM. We'll aim to complete the hike in about 9 hours. Hikers should be prepared with the ten essentials, including appropriate layers, adequate food & water, and a headlamp. If our pace is significantly slower than expected or we face inclement weather or conditions, we will abbreviate the hike at Huckleberry Mountain or pivot to a different hike.

I have hiked the trail as far as Huckleberry Mountain before but not as far as Wildcat. From my experience and trail reports, I expect the trails to be in good shape. Nonetheless this is an exploratory hike, meaning the leader has not hiked the full trail before.
