Activity Notes

This loop hike will visit a great viewpoint on the Timberline Trail and ford Newton Creek. Gnarl Ridge is among the more awe-inspiring hikes on the east side of Mt Hood. If the mountain is visible at all, our photos should be spectacular, especially if there is new snow. The river crossings should be at their least gnarly in late October. The loop in the middle of our hike will be counter-clockwise; we will return from the Timberline Trail via the Newton Creek Trail. Expected stats are 11.4 miles and 2,550' of gain.
