The hike to stone shelter at McNeil Point follows the Top Spur trail to the PCT, then to the Timberline Trail, and finally the McNeil Point Trail. Along the way you will pass through old growth forests, have spectacular views of Mount Hood, cross some beautiful creeks, and in mid summer, see plenty of wildflowers. Didn't get a good view during Round the Mountain 2026? Well neither did I.  

Which is why I am leading a hike up to McNeil Point to get the views without those pesky river crossings. I may change the date to maximize the chance for good weather.  Preference people who did RTM this year!

Meet at Gateway Transit Center at 7AM or the trailhead at 8:30AM. Northwest Forest Pass (or America the Beautiful Pass) required.
