Activity Notes

Join me on a hike through wildflower meadows on the east side of Pahto (Mt Adams). A highlight of this hike is the overlook of Hellroaring Meadows where we'll take a break before continuing up a user trail to glacier-fed Iceberg Lake. On the way back we'll loop along a different trail to take in more of the meadows and lakes.

The hike will be about 8.5 miles and 2,200 ft elevation gain. Visiting Iceberg Lake requires hiking on a climber's trail over a sandy, rocky moraine and boulder hopping near the lake. Most of the hike is exposed to the sun (part goes through a 2015 burn area and a portion is above treeline). You can find good descriptions of the meadow loop and the portion going up to Iceberg Lake on OregonHikers.

Yakima Nation opens this area for a short time each summer and charges $20 cash to park. It's about 2.5 hr drive to Bird Lake trailhead due to some rough roads. We'll coordinate a carpool ahead of time.
