Activity Notes
This climb is for FM 101 graduates, with preference given to FM 101 assistants.
Please review the Mazamas Climber Etiquette Guide and the following information prior to applying for this climb.
Pre-climb meeting: We will meet at camp at 7 PM on Friday, August 14 for a required pre-climb meeting.
Overview: We will meet at the Reflection Lake trailhead at 8:00a and be ready to hike in by 8:30a. We will take the Pinnacle Peak trail to the saddle between Plummer and Pinnacle Peak. From the saddle, we will traverse to the east on the south side of the mountains to The Castle. We will ascend The Castle on top rope (low 5th class), rappel off The Castle, retrace our steps to the saddle, and return to the trailhead. Total round trip distance is ~4.0 miles with an elevation gain of ~1,600 ft.
Skills Required: Climbing up to low 5th class on belay and / or fixed line, rappelling, and scrambling.
Camping: We will camp the night before the climb at a campsite to be determined.
Costs: Please account for these additional costs when deciding to apply:
- Camping: Cost to be determined based on location, number of cars, and number of people (paid to Climb Leader)
- Entry to Rainer National Park: $30 per car (paid to National Park), passes are also available (see info here)
- Carpool gas contribution: suggested $22 per person (paid to carpool driver)
What to Expect After Applying: The climb team will be selected by approximately one week after registration closes.
