Backpack: Obsidian Trail Three Sisters Trail Exploration

Activity Notes

This is a quick turn around!  We just received 4 permits to explore the Three Sisters Wilderness area entering in on Obsidian Trailhead on Monday July 6th.  We plan on hiking in 12 miles each day with about 2000 elevation gauge each day. 

Monday July 6th. Enter in and hike to Arrowhead / Eileen Lake Area. 12.51 miles 2,535 EG

Tuesday July 7th. Head northbound to Opie Dildock Pass and set up camp at South Matthiew Lake area. 11.93 miles, 2,116 EG

Wednesday July 8th Return back to trailhead. 11.35 miles, 1457 EG

This will be an exploratory backpack for the two leaders. We have both backpacked this area but not the entire loop. 

Applicants should have prior backpacking experience, LNT experience and be self sufficiant (i.e. have everything you need for backpacking - filter, tent, stove, etc).

Both leaders are backpacking this week and out of cell range. We will make weather call on Sunday the 5th. We will make selections starting on Friday 3rd. Priority is given to Mazama members- please keep your membership current!
