Activity Notes

NOTE:  This climb is reserved for FM101 graduates and assistants, and they will be given priority.

The Tattoosh Range is a series of rocky crags just south of Mt, Rainier, and is a great place for day hikes, scrambles and climbing. On a clear day, the views of Mt. Rainier are spectacular, and mountain goats make these crags their home.

Plummer and Denman Peaks are located in the central part of the range, and are accessed by a well-graded trail leaving from the Reflection Lakes parking lot in Mt. Rainier National Park.

Both of these peaks are accessed from the trail by short 2nd-3rd class scrambles, and there is little exposure so long as you remain on route.

Total mileage and elev. gain of this dual summit climb is 4 miles round trip and 1750' of elev. gain.

No ropes or harnesses will be necessary, but helmets will be required.

This climb is suitable for Families 101 graduates 8 years old or higher. At least one parent or legal guardian must sign up for the climb and accompany the child on the climb.

An America the Beautiful or other National Park annual or day pass will be required to access the trailhead.

We will meet at the Trailhead at 8:00 AM. We hope to reserve a campsite in the area the night before the climb for climb participants, and the leader will be driving up midday on Thursday to secure the campsite.

The trailhead is located HERE.

We will begin hiking to the summits at 8:15 AM. We should arrive back at the trailhead between 3 and 4 PM, and we will have lunch up on the summit of Plummer Peak. The Leader's favorite summit treats include chocolate chip cookies, brownies and peanut butter cups.

While the leader has climbed Plummer Peak several times, he has not climbed Denman Peak before, so this portion of the climb will be exploratory for the leader.

This Climb maybe combined with a climb of Castle Peak scheduled for the next day, Saturday, August 15th, and led by Eric Einspruch.
