Activity Notes

Please read the entire description of this activity before applying. Thank you!

This is a great, easily accessible sport multi-pitch climb. It is roughly a 3 hour drive from Portland.

Santiam Pinnacle is a multipitch climb comprised of 3 pitches of mostly 5.6 bolted, sport climbing just a 5 minute walk from the highway. We will climb in two groups of three, and will rappel from the summit after enjoying the view. Afterwards, we may attempt to climb a nearby single pitch 5.7 bolted, sport climb, depending on the time.

Each group consists of a sport leader, a lead belayer, and a third, following climber (potentially a beginner climber/ first time multi-pitch climber).

When applying, please add your name and info HERE  with the role you are applying for:

Lead -- Experienced sport multipitch climber (AR or ICS w/ outdoor lead climbing experience). (1 open spot)

Lead belay -- ICS level or other experience lead belaying outdoors.(2 open spots)

Follower -- Basic rock skills including roped climbing and rappelling. (2 open spots)

Each participant is required to have Basic Rock Skills (BCEP or equivalent) and must be comfortable with toprope climbing on vertical rock, and rappelling with a rappel device and autoblock.

On Sunday July 26 the leaders will be leading an optional day of toprope climbing at Smith Rock, and will be driving to and camping at the Smith Rock area after Santiam Pinnacle. The Smith Rock day is on the calendar as a separate event and must be applied for independently of this climb. Participants of the Santiam Pinnacle climb will be given a preference for the Smith Rock day if they apply.
