Activity Notes
This is a full end‑to‑end traverse of Portland’s iconic Wildwood Trail on the longest day of the year. Expect a long, rewarding day through Forest Park’s classic mossy forest with soft terrain, starting just before sunrise.
Wildwood Trail is 30.2 miles point‑to‑point with about 3,100 feet of elevation gain, with many short ups and downs rather than one sustained climb, which allows us to maintain a moderate to fast pace throughout the day.
We’ll hike south to north, from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial/Washington Park to the Newberry Road trailhead, tackling the main climb up to Pittock Mansion (around 700 feet) early so we can finish with miles of more cruisy terrain.
Parking is at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and costs about $8; a car will be staged at Newberry Road to shuttle the small group back to their vehicles at the end of the hike.
