Larch Mountain Crater

Activity Notes

Larch Mountain is the largest of the volcanoes in the Boring Lava Field, and its remaining (albeit eroded) crater now contains old-growth forests, ponds, bogs, and flowery meadows.

This a wonderful, fairly easy, nature hike with a little bit of everything, including great views from Sherrard Point at hike's end.

We will move at an easy pace (1.5 mph), and take our time enjoying a spring day in a beautiful forest.

We will have lunch along the way.

We will meet at the Mazamas Mountaineering Center, 527 SE 43rd Ave SE, PDX, at 8 AM to organize carpools, and we should arrive at the trailhead at 8:50 AM. We will begin hiking a few minutes after 9 AM.

I can take 3 hikers in my car, but we will need at least one and possibly two additional drivers if all of us wish to carpool.

The trailhead is located HERE. 

If the road to the trailhead has not yet been opened by the county, a hike with similar characteristics and difficulty will be chosen.
