The South Side route is a high, gentle climb great for beginning climbers who want an overnight trip with fewer people and a more wilderness feel than Hood. There are no crevasses on this route. Be careful if you glissade - a twisted ankle here is a LOT more serious problem than on Hood. Skiers take note: this route can have over a 6,000 foot vertical descent in early season! Ambitious and fit climbers can try this car to car in one day.

Activity Notes

This will be a fun and supportive team climb.  New climbers and recent BCEP grads who want to experience a big mountain with a beautiful high alpine camp are strongly encouraged to apply!

She, They, Us is an inclusive and welcoming community of women, genderqueer, and gender non-conforming folx interested in the outdoors. We create opportunities for women, gender non-conforming, and genderqueer people to learn new skills, hike, and climb in a safe environment. We strive to encourage each other and promote growth in order to build a new generation of climbers through mentorship. By supporting each other, we help each other achieve goals outdoors, feel empowered to try new things, and grow. We hope to build a supportive network and foster a sense of belonging for all who participate in our affinity group activities. We are committed to anti-racism and welcome dialogue about intersectionality. Our vision for this affinity group is to offer activities that celebrate diversity for historically underrepresented gender expressions in the climbing and outdoor space. She, They, Us is a collaborative space that will continue to evolve and grow, informing and inspiring each other along a path to further awareness.

Trip Description:

We'll depart from the South Climb trailhead at 4am Sunday, and return to the cars before dark Sunday PM.

Each climber needs to obtain their own $20 Mt Adams Climbing Pass prior to the climb.  Do not purchase until the trip is confirmed a "go".

Helmet, ice axe, crampons, and crampon-compatible boots are required.  Approach shoes can be a good idea.

The road to the trailhead is not great.  High-clearance vehicles recommended.
