Mt. Wow is a prominent scrambling peak located at the west boundary of Mt. Rainier National Park just north of the Nisqually entrance.  There are several routes on the peak- the most popular from the Nisqually Entrance. An alternate and shorter route is via Lake Allen from the West Side Road on the east side of the peak. All routes are off trail and good route finding skills are necessary. In good weather, the view of Mt. Rainier is “Wow!”

Activity Notes

This climb on the SE edge of Mt. Rainier National Park offers some spectacular views of the mountain, or so  I'm told.

The plan is to leave town Friday (if you can go earlier to get a campsite, that would be helpful), and camp near the park. We should plan dinner somewhere along the route or at one of the places near the Park Entrance. That will likely depend on when you leave town.

Saturday morning, we'll start climbing early from the Nisqually entrance. Not quite an alpine start, but not leisurely. We'll climb, look, descend and return to Portland Saturday evening.
