Activity Notes
Coldwater Lake Loop: We begin our hike at the Hummocks Trailhead. A short road walk takes us to the South Coldwater Trail. Once we gain the ridge, we will have the opportunity to examine the logging equipment that remains from the 1980 Mt St Helens eruption. We continue along the ridge until we intersect with the Coldwater Trail. A somewhat steep and often overgrown decent takes us to the Lakes Trail, where we follow the northwest shores of Coldwater Lake for a fairly level hike back to our vehicles. This loop is 12 miles, and 2000ft of elevation gain. The majority of the elevation gain is achieved in the first 4 miles, which we will take at a no-stress pace.
The trailhead is about 2 hrs drive from Portland, carpooling is encouraged!
