Activity Notes
This is one of the toughest hikes in the gorge. We'll do the loop clockwise going up the West Table Mountain trail which rises 1200 feet in only 0.8 miles, much of it on loose rock along an exposed ridge line. The descent via the unusually steep Heartbreak Ridge trail has two sections with 700 ft of elevation loss in just 0.3 mile each. The first of these is directly down a boulder field. Totals for the hike are about 10 miles and 3500 feet of elevation gain. Applicants should be comfortable with steep, loose, rocky trails and have recently done hikes with 3000+ feet of elevation gain.
We'll carpool from the MMC departing at 7:30 am. The resort charges a $10 parking fee for each vehicle. If there is rain in the forecast, we will likely do an alternative hike.
