Activity Notes
The Lost Corral Trail sounds like the title of a Zane Grey novel, and Cottonwood Canyon is the perfect setting for a western adventure. Come and experience the wide open spaces of Oregon’s high desert country on this nine-mile, out-and-back hike. Starting from the J.S. Burres day use area, we’ll follow an old ranch road as it traces a section of the wild and scenic John Day River. We’ll pass through sagebrush flats and rugged canyonland as we find our way to the lost corral.
9 miles/ 100 feet elevation / 250 drive miles
We will meet at J.S. Burres State Wayside at 9:30 AM.
