Activity Notes
Interested in climbing Monkey Face at Smith Rock State Park? This evening skill builder gives you a clear overview of the easiest routes on the iconic spire plus hands-on practice with aid ladders and ascenders.
We’ll start with a focused lecture covering route options, required gear, lead/follow considerations and descending. Then you’ll rotate through on-wall stations to practice leading on bolt ladders, following and an option jugging station.
Who It’s For:
- Climbers comfortable with trad and multi-pitch systems
- Climbers new to bolt ladders and aid climbing
What this class does not cover:
- Advanced aid climbing techniques
- Evaluation for Monkey Face readiness
Gear Required:
- Harness
- Helmet
- Belay Device
- 5 quick draws or alpine draws
- Shoes
- (Optional) 2 double slings and 2 single slings
Gear provided:
- Aid Ladders
- Ascenders
