Mountaintop views that reach from the Pacific Ocean to Mt. Hood await you on this steep climb to the top of a double-peaked summit of basalt. The upper part of the mountain is decorated with vast steep wildflower meadows in summer. More details on Oregon Hikers.

Activity Notes

Saddle Mountain is a high point in the north coast range with possible views from Rainier to Jefferson and during peak wildflower season. If the weather is great and we do all the side trails, are stats will be 5.1 miles and 1,725' of gain. We'll do a little less if the weather is subpar. The only other things to know about the hike (for newbies) is exposure to elements (sun, wind, and/or precipitation) on the upper part of the trail, plus chicken wire on parts of the trail to control erosion. Note this hike is on a Thursday, so we shouldn't get peak crowds.

We will gather 07:30 at the Hillsboro Airport Park & Ride, which is along the MAX Blue Line and the western terminus of the MAX Red Line. This location was chosen as there should be available parking. Directions can be viewed at https://maps.app.goo.gl/SKZrbJixWuJRqirL7. I expect to begin our hike shortly after 09:00.
