Commonly done during the Basic Climbing Education Program (BCEP), this hike is a good conditioner for climbing Mt. Hood as well as practicing rope team travel and crampon techniques.

We'll meet in the Wy-East Lodge at 7:15am. Please plan to use the restroom before 7:15am so we can start on time.  Park in the climber's parking lot. Please bring snowshoes and spikes. (please note that NO crampons or ice axes are allowed on Mazama Hikes and the climber's trail doesn't get groomed until April, so snow shoes are essential and it's a workout!

The length of these conditioners will depend on the group and the weather but we will aim for Palmer.

This hike is geared toward people who want a great work out and / or are curious about eventually summiting Mt. Hood and want to see how the first couple of miles feel. It's a good opportunity to test out your gear, share advice and meet potential adventure partners.

Sno park permits are required between November and April.
