This is an C level Mazama Hike that occurs in a wilderness area. C level hikes are difficult or strenuous hikes with either over 15 miles in distance or over 3,000 feet elevation gain. C level hikes require you to apply; once you apply you will receive an email within a few days letting you know if you have been accepted onto the hike.

Activity Notes

Triple D challenge includes three classic big day hikes all done in one day in the Columbia River Gorge;  Dog Mountain, Mount Defiance, and Devil's Rest.  Approx 24 miles and 10K gain. Its going to be a challenging day (and night)! 

This particular hike will focus on two of the three hikes in the Triple D - Dog and Defiance, thus making it Double D challenge. If weather cooperates and we are making great timing, we can opt to take on Devil's Rest to complete the Triple D Challenge.

This will be a brisk hiking pace (2-2.5 mph).
