With beautiful views, amazing spring wildflowers, and a relatively short effort, this is one of the most popular hikes in the Gorge. On a good day, you can get a view of Mt. Hood and the Columbia River.

Activity Notes

Join us in this longtime Mazama tradition and ring In the New Year with some elevation and (hopefully, fingers crossed) views.

We will hike up the steepest option to the top of Dog Mountain, and down the backside on the Augsperger Trail.

7 miles, 2900' elevation. Our pace will be 1.5 - 2 mph.

Be fully prepared for winter weather, extra layers, good gloves, warm headgear, poles, gaiters and microspikes.

We will meet at MMC for 7:20 a.m. for a 7:30 AM SHARP departure.

Let me know if you plan to meet at the trail head.

Here is the route description from OregonHikers:  https://www.oregonhikers.org/field_guide/dog_mountain_hike

Lunch in Hood River or Portland afterwards for those interested.
