Activity Notes

Building off of the fundamentals introduced to you the previous night on Mt. Tabor, we will take you to Hamilton Island located in the center of the Columbia River.  We will set up a very fun navigation exercise that is similar to the Tabor course, but far larger and longer in scale.  You will break up into 2 teams and work together as a group to overcome a variety of navigational challenges that you are likely to encounter in your mountaineering career.

This breakout session requires walking off-trail, so please dress appropriately for the weather and for the terrain.  The navigation exercise will take around 2hrs to complete.

It is very important to get you started with safe outdoor climbing fundamentals, so after the navigation exercise, we will demonstrate how to rappel and belay, and introduce you to your required technical knots you will need to memorize.  There is a nice covered picnic table area at the trailhead where will will hold these demonstrations.  We can grab a beer afterwards at the local pub.
