Commonly done during the Basic Climbing Education Program (BCEP), this hike is a good conditioner for climbing Mt. Hood as well as practicing rope team travel and crampon techniques.
Activity Notes
Hike to the top of Palmer & possibly a bit higher. We will be picking up trash along the way so please bring some trashbags / gloves and anything else you may need to assist you. You're also welcome to bring your ski's/board if you are into that type of thing (I will most likely bring mine)
If your slower and want to do your own thing that should be okay also!
Backup date will be Sunday (or possibly following weekend)
We will hike up to Silcox hut following the climbers trail most likely starting from the climbers lot. Steady but brisk pace (probably not much trash on this section) to silcox (50 min - 1hour) At Silcox we will take a break and spend 15ish minutes picking stuff up there before walking over to the top of Magic Mile lift. From there we will head up to the top of Palmer taking another break at a big trash pile about halfway up. Shooting for 1.5 - 2 hours from silcox to top of palmer lift. From there we'll decide what we want to do and descend (picking up trash along the way!)
