Activity Notes
This hike will cover about 11.5 miles with 3400 ft of elevation gain by adding the Ed's Trail loop to the Grouse Vista route up to Silver Star. We'll also check out Sturgeon Rock along the way. I have not done the Sturgeon Rock portion so that piece will be "exploratory."
Ed's Trail is narrow and somewhat exposed in places. After passing through a small natural arch, it has a couple short stretches of scrambling. From OregonHikers.org, "Soon after the arch, the trail climbs a steep muddy section that often requires scrambling on all fours. This section is only about 30 feet high. A second section will certainly require your hands as the trail ascends a 15 foot rocky wall."
We will carpool from the MMC parking lot departing at 7:30 am or you can meet us at the Grouse Vista trailhead at 8:30. A Washington Discover Pass is required to park at the trailhead. Passes are not sold at the trailhead but can be purchased online: Discover Pass
