This is an B level Mazama Hike that occurs in a wilderness area. B level hikes are moderate or more challenging hikes with either less than 15 miles in distance with between 1,500 and 3,000 feet elevation gain or between 8 and 15 miles in distance with less than 1,500 feet of elevation gain.

Activity Notes

We will do an out and back from the Killen Creek trailhead to High Camp. This is a strenuous hike and there is about 1 mile up to High Camp which is quite rough and rugged! Leader will maintain a pace of 2-3 mph (faster on the long descent). Please email trip leader with details on your preparation / conditioning for this difficult hike. 

This hike will be:

  • 10.0 miles, roundtrip 
  • elevation gain 2,300 feet

  • Meet at the Mt. Adams ranger station in Trout Lake, WA, at 8:30am. Carpooling from this location is possible since we can leave cars parked here. Google Maps link to this ranger station: https://maps.app.goo.gl/8PpcRp96Vn8v7N9e9
  • The Killen Creek trailhead is approximately 50 minutes' drive time from the ranger station. 
  • There are some car camping campgrounds in the area - the closest to this hike are Takhlakh Lake Campground (reservations possible) and Killen Creek Campground (first come, first served).
