With beautiful views, amazing spring wildflowers, and a relatively short effort, this is one of the most popular hikes in the Gorge. On a good day, you can get a view of Mt. Hood and the Columbia River.

Activity Notes
Celebrate the 6/15/2025 end of the Dog Mountain permits with a hike on America's newest holiday. We will ascend the easternmost trail and descend the Augspurger Trail. As always, this is a steep hike that should be no one's first hike of spring.
There may be a few flowers hanging on, and we'll get gorge and mountain views if smoke isn't widespread. Please note that fires in the eastern gorge could impact whether this hike is doable. I always cancel activities with hazardous air quality.
We are starting early because the end of permits and a rare free day could yield a lot of interest. No passes are required on 6/19/2025, but every vehicle from Portland will need $6 to cross the Bridge of the Gods twice.
