Tamanos Mountain is a broad and gentle lava flow remant, extending N of Cowlitz Chimneys at about 2/3 of a mile NW of Owyhigh Lakes. Scrambling required to reach the summit.

Activity Notes

Tamanos Mountain (6790 ft) is a rocky pyramid rising to the west above Owyhigh Lakes In northeast Rainier National park. It is a popular scramble via its southeast ridge. This climb begins with a well worn forest hiking trail to a high saddle, then climbs through flowery subalpine meadows and huckleberry fields, and is punctuated with a scramble along the ridge to the summit. It offers a fairly easy ascent with some non-technical climbing, and impressive views of the northeast side of Mount Rainiers glaciers and Little Tahoma Peak.

I will be doing another climb on Sunday ( Burroughs Mt) and you can consider applying for that also.

 

You will need to camp the night before due to the starting time.
