Activity Notes

Car shuttle hike in which we will leave at least one vehicle at Wildwood Recreation Site, only one vehicle at the Bonanza Trailhead, and hike Huckleberry Mountain, ascending the Bonanza Trail and descending the Boulder Ridge Trail. The Bonanza ascent will be exploratory for your hike leader, but the Boulder Ridge descent is well known by your hike leader. One apparent bonus is the Bonanza Mine, which we will observe without entering. When we emerge from mature forest, we could get views of nearby volcanoes. There will also be a few rhododendron blooms, but they”ll be peaking in mid to late June.

We will leave Gateway P&R at 07:00. We'll stop at the Zigzag Ranger Station 07:45 to use the restrooms. We will then position all hikers but the drivers at the Bonanza trailhead. All drivers will proceed to Bonanza, and one vehicle with all drivers will return about 20 minutes later. Then we will do the one-way hike, which should be about 11.2 miles with 3,500' gain. After the hike, we will return everyone to their original vehicle.

Vehicles parked at Wildwood will need someone in the vehicle with an America the Beautiful or Senior pass. The NW Forest Pass is not honored at Wildwood.
