This is an moderate ascent of a gentle peak in the Cascade Pass area in central WA, with outstanding views and classic alpine terrain: a nice approach trail, a short bit of glacier travel, and some 4th class rock scrambling on the summit block. While commonly done with a high camp, it can be climbed car-to-car in a long day.

The summit vistas are spectacular, from Mt. Baker south to Glacier Peak.

Note the correct name - Sahale Mountain, NOT Mt. Sahale or Sahale Peak.

Activity Notes

This itinerary is a CTC trip from local campground. I am up for a hike in and overnight at Sahale Glacier Camp or Boston Basin if permits are available and the full team is interested. Cascade Pass to Sahale is a beautiful area, hard to justify a single day mission-oriented peak bag other than difficulty with overnight permits.

Day 1, Friday July 18. Drive to Mineral Park CG, 280 miles from Portland, estimate 5 hrs driving time.

Day 2, Saturday July 19. From camp drive to Cascade Pass TH (3600’). Hike 3.5 miles to Cascade Pass (5300’), hike 2.3 miles to Cascade Pass camp (7600’), traverse 0.8 miles across Sahale Glacier to col at 8400’, traverse east side of Sahale to summit (8700’). Rappel off south side of summit to glacier, retrace the route to TH. Day total 14 miles, 5100’ gain.

Day 3, Sunday July 20. From camp drive home.

Expect 5 lbs group gear above your personal pack weight.
