Mt. Baker reclaimed the world record for single season snowfall in 1998-99 - 95 FEET, taking it from Rainier. Next to Rainier, Baker is the most glaciated peak in the lower 48 states. This is a fairly long route with moderate crevasse risk. Camping on the edge of the Coleman Glacier is spectacular! The lower camp is best, before you get onto the glacier. Fit, small teams can do this route car to car in a day.

Activity Notes

Join me for a climb a of Mt. Baker (Koma Kulshan)—the "great white watcher" of the North Cascades—via the Coleman Deming Glacier. Applicants should have crevasse rescue training and prior experience snow camping. You should also prepared that with ropes and group gear your pack will be heavier than average and you will need to be a proactive team member, ready to help melt snow, etc.

  • Day 1: Hike to camp
  • Day 2: Summit attempt, return to camp
  • Day 3: Hike out
