Activity Notes
Snow depth as of March 8 is trending toward a snow free trailhead, if late season snowstorms arrive an extra mile may be added to the approach. The eight-mile forest service road to trailhead ‘can’ be traveled by an elevated ground clearance AWD with new-ish tires but be warned that the last 3 miles really deserve a truck/jeep with sturdier tires.
Day 1, Saturday May 24: drive 360 miles to Northgate TH ( 6,900’), hike 4 miles to camp at 10,000’. Day total 360 miles, 6.5 hours driving , 4 miles hiking, 3100’ gain, expect 100% snow travel. Camp on snow.
Day 2, Sunday May 25 summit day: Climb 2 miles to summit (14,180’), return to camp. Day total 4 miles travel distance, 4,200’ gain, 4,200’ loss.
Day 3, Monday May 26 Memorial Day: hike out and drive home.
$25 summit pass per climber is required.
