Cottonwood Canyon State Park: Lost Corral Trail

The Lost Corral Trail sounds like the title of a Zane Grey novel, and Cottonwood Canyon is the perfect setting for a western adventure. Come and experience the wide open spaces of Oregon's high desert country on this nine-mile, out-and-back hike. Starting from the J.S. Burres day use area, we'll follow an old ranch road as it traces a section of the wild and scenic John Day River. We'll pass through sagebrush flats and rugged canyonland as we find our way to the lost corral.

9 miles/ 100 feet elevation / 250 drive miles

We will meet at the trailhead located at J.S. Burres State Wayside at 9:30 AM.

Hikers may opt to couple this hike with the Columbia Hills hike on April 18. Those doing so may be interested in car camping at Cottonwood Canyon State Park on the night of April 18. Contact the hike leader for more information.
