Activity Notes
This is two hikes that total about 10 miles and a hefty 4100 feet of elevation gain. Applicants should have completed a hike with 3000+ feet of elevation gain within the past couple of months and be comfortable going at a brisk pace.
We'll carpool from the MMC parking lot departing at 7:30 am, or you can meet us at the Dog Mountain trailhead at 8:30. A NW Forest Pass or America the Beautiful Pass is required for parking. We will go up the steeper side of the loop for a good workout and return via the Augspurger Trail. About 7 miles and 2900 feet of elevation gain.
Then, after a 10-minute drive, we'll hike to the top of Wind Mountain, about 2.7 miles and 1200 feet of elevation gain. Note, I have not hiked Wind Mountain before which in Mazamas' parlance makes this an "exploratory" hike. We will take care to respect the historical and cultural significance of the indigenous spirit quest sites on the mountain's summit.
