Mt. Baker, Easton Glacier

Activity Notes

Mt. Baker, is known as “Koma Kulshan” to the Lummi Tribe of Puget Sound, meaning ‘’broken or damaged.’’ The peak is the most northern of the Cascade Range volcanos, and is the third highest peak in Washington. Next to Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker is the most glaciated peak in the lower 48 states. The Easton Glacier route is the most moderate on the peak.

Our itinerary will be: Day 1 meet at the trail head at 9:00a and hike to camp at about 6,000 feet (approximately 4 miles and 2,600 feet elevation gain), Day 2 climb and return to camp (approximately 3 miles and 4,800 feet elevation gain to the summit), and Day 3 hike out and return home.

Due to glaciation and crevasse risk, it is very important that climb members be fluent in crevasse rescue skills. Team members selected for the climb are expected to participate in a crevasse rescue review session on Wednesday, June 11 from 6:00p to 9:00p at the MMC. We will again briefly review these skills in camp on Day 1.
