Activity Notes

Come join AYM for a hike on the lesser explored North Side of Mt. Hood. We will take the Pinnacle Ride Trail and connect to Barrett Spur vis the Barrett Spur Trail. If conditions look good with will head up to Barrett Spur at 7851 ft and have great views of Hood and the Coe glacier. We will be in the Mt. Hood National Forest so we have a hard limit of 11 participants and myself.

Plan to meet at the Gateway Transit Center at 6:00AM. It is about a 2 hour drive so we start hiking around 8AM. Please note there is no water at the trailhead and no bathrooms so please plan accordingly. The closest town is Hood River. High clearance vehicles are recommended and if the road turns out to be impassible we will turn around.

Everyone bring your 10 essentials, water and food. Between the burn scar and the ridge it could be very sunny so be prepared for that as well.

Note, this is considered quite a challenging hike. It has about 12 miles of distance and 4000ft of elevation gain and it is mostly straight up the entire time. There will be hiking through a burn scar and there may be some rocky sections towards the top of Barrett spur. Please consider these factors before applying for this hike. I expect this hike will take most of the day and at least 8 to9 hours.

This hike is subject to conditions both trail wise and weather wise. I do not want to hike this in the rain and the top portion may be a bit treacherous if the weather is no good. If the weather does not look good a decision will be made closer to the day of the hike.
