Activity Notes
I have not done this hike before which in Mazamas' parlance makes it an "exploratory" hike. This is one of the toughest hikes in the gorge, but it rewards hikers with reportedly the best views (which is why I'm eager to check it out.) The stats are 16 miles and 4300 ft of elevation gain. However, the first six miles of trail are relatively flat. Much of the elevation gain is concentrated on the very steep Heartbreak Ridge trail which has two sections with 700 ft of elevation gain in just 0.3 miles. The second of these is directly up a boulder field. The descent on the West Table Mountain trail drops 1200 ft in only 0.8 miles, much of it on loose talus. Since this will be a long day, we'll get an early start. We'll carpool from the MMC departing at 6:30 am or you can meet us at the North Bonneville Trailhead at 7:15 am. A NW Forest pass or America the Beautiful pass is required to park at the trailhead.| Other Information | |
