ACTIVITY DETAILS:
For a short portion of the day you will be treated as if you're a novice rock climber so the instructor candidates can demonstrate their abilities to instruct. In general, we'll spend most of the day single-pitch top-rope climbing.
The candidates are qualified to teach a wide range of Traditional Climbing skills, so if there is a specific topic you're curious to learn some more about (e.g. rock climbing movement techniques, rappelling techniques, anchor building techniques, trad gear placement techniques), we would carve out time for "mini-lessons" to teach to those objectives.
PREREQUISITES AND COSTS:
There is no Mazama fee for this activity, though there may be a parking fee dependent on that location.
There are no climbing skills prerequisites for this activity-- open to first-time climbers. You do not need to have any outdoor climbing experience. The equipment prerequisites are fairly minor: climbing harness, climbing helmet, rock shoes (optional, but really helpful), suitable climbing clothing, lunch/snacks/water, car camping gear (optional).
