Activity Notes

This is a crevasse rescue re-certification session for Climb Leaders and Leadership Development participants. The curriculum assumes prior crevasse rescue training. The goal is for participants to refresh their crevasse rescue knowledge and skills on snow with simulated falls and weighted haul systems. You will be expected demonstrate proficiency on the following skills:

  • Team Arrest and Communication
  • Building Snow Anchors
  • Building Various Haul systems - 2:1, 3:1 and Combining Them
  • Managing Safety

We'll focus on the current AMGA approach of starting with a "Drop-C" (2:1) and then adding a 3:1 to the C. Current guidance does not involve a load releasable hitch at the anchor. However, many of us learned this method and we have the flexibility to practice different ways. The important thing is that you have a method in your toolkit that you can effectively apply to a real rescue.
