BPA ROAD - HIKE PROSPECTUS

Route Description Route: BPA Road-Newton Road Loop

The BPA Road is one of many connecting trails in the famed Forest Park in NW Portland. The route we will be taking is approximately 5 miles long and is rated as moderate. The trail begins at the Northwest BPA Road on St Helens road and starts with a steep climb up into the trees. The canopy of Doug fir, western hemlock, and big leaf maple will stay with us for the majority of the hike. We will be connecting the BPA road with a few other trails/fire roads to complete a loop back to the trailhead.

BPA ROAD - HIKE PROSPECTUS Meeting Time & Driving Directions Please plan to arrive by 8:00AM.

Google Maps: BPA Road Trailhead Latitude: 45.61162 Longitude: -122.79745

From I-405 going north, take Exit 3 on the left for Highway 30W and St. Helens. Keep left and then in the center lane for 1.0 miles under an overpass to the traffic light at Yeon Avenue and Nicolai Street. Keep straight here for 7.1 miles (Yeon Avenue becomes St. Helens Road after 2.0 miles), looking for the gated BPA Road on the left after passing through Linnton. It is 1 mile past the last stop light which is 107th in Linnton. Find a safe place to turn around and park on the wide highway shoulder near the BPA Road. If you come to Harborton Drive you have gone too far, but that is a perfect place to turn around to be facing the right direction when you park by the BPA gate. There is plenty of room on the shoulder to park, just be careful getting out on the driver’s side since there are fast moving trucks just 4 feet away on the road. No fees for parking or passes for trailhead.
