Activity Notes

Original June Lake plan is postponed due to the landslide on WA-503, the backup plan is Tamanawas Falls!

The Tamanawas Falls trail follows Cold Spring Creek for nearly two miles before it reaches a volcanic amphitheater featuring an impressive 110ft waterfall. Tamanawaas is a Chinook jargon word meaning guardian spirit, or friendly spirit- which we might need after all this precipitation! We will likely experience some snow on the ground, but not enough to require snowshoes. Traction and hiking poles are strongly recommended. This hike is just under 4 miles, and  has approximately 600ft of mild elevation gain. The route is beginner friendly, and we will take an easy pace. Snowshoes will not be necessary for this hike.

Trailhead parking requires a NW Forest Pass, America the Beautiful Pass, or National Forest Day Pass purchased ahead of time. We will carpool from the MMC.

In the event of poor weather (high winds) or dangerous driving conditions, I will cancel the event with 48 hours notice.

[Original June Lake Plan Postponed due to the landslide on WA-503: If you are new to snowshoeing, or are looking for a relaxed paced outing through a scenic winter forest, join us for a June Lake Snowshoe! Beginning around dawn, we will follow a series of ski/snowshoe trails to reach June Lake, leaving plenty of time to stop for pictures and to enjoy the views. We will stop at the lake for snacks & hot cocoa before proceeding above tree-line for great views of Mt St Helens. We will then descend the worm flows climbing route back to our cars.

Plan on dressing for the winter weather (layers!), bringing the 10 Essentials, snowshoes and/or micro-spikes, hiking poles, gaiters, and sturdy waterproof boots.

Sno-Park permits are required to park at Marble Mountain. One day permit is $25, seasonal permit is $50, and must be purchased ahead of time. Carpool is recommended!

Weather: I will reschedule this snowshoe if weather is poor or if driving conditions are dangerous.]
