Activity Notes
Climb of Mt Hood through South Side Participants should be familiar with: 1) Crampons, use of an ice ax with a leash and a second tool with a leash 2) Glacier travel 3) Use of ten essentials Applicants should also have excellent physical conditioning, about 1000 feet of vert in an hour is expected pace. We will meet and start at midnight from the climbers registration room, which is to the right immediately as you enter the timberline ski lodge. We will park in the overnight lot. Plan to start cold, so we can avoid a layer break. We will take a 5 minute break at the top of Palmer chair lift to put crampons and harness up, and get ice axes out. Hike at your own pace, and keep hydrating and eating. We will take another break at crater rock and then head up either the left or right gate. We will not be spending too much time at the summit, maybe around ten minutes. We will start the descent shortly thereafter. Expected return to the cars at 2 PM or before.Registration is Closed
