The South Side route is a high, gentle climb great for beginning climbers who want an overnight trip with fewer people and a more wilderness feel than Hood. There are no crevasses on this route. Be careful if you glissade - a twisted ankle here is a LOT more serious problem than on Hood. Skiers take note: this route can have over a 6,000 foot vertical descent in early season! Ambitious and fit climbers can try this car to car in one day.

Activity Notes

Who:

Beginning-to-intermediate alpine climbers eager to complete a snow ascent of a glaciated peak with an overnight with views and an epic glissade. Recent BCEP graduates are especially welcomed! People from historically underrepresented groups like LGBTQ, BIPOC and women climbers are also encouraged! My goal is to create a supportive and cohesive team.

What:

Mt. Adams is one of the three Guardian Peaks and a popular climb because of its proximity to Portland.

Where:

Mt. Adams via the South Side climber’s trail.

When:

Sunday, July 9, 2023 - Monday, July 10, 2023. We will hike in Sunday morning to Lunch Counter and set up camp; rise early Monday, summiting Monday July 10, returning to camp to break down, and then hiking out to cars Monday  afternoon

Why:

Beautiful views and good times with friends! This is also one of the Guardian Peaks and one of the 16 Peaks of the Cascades and a provisional lead to help Stacey learn and advance to becoming a full-fledged climb leader.
