Activity Notes
Smith Rock Summit Loop Variation Adventure Hike
This is a 9.0 mile hiking loop around the entire Smith Rock State Park area, and includes some top rope climbing and rappelling. We'll see the entire park including the Crooked River, trail over to and up the burma road by the Marsupials, up to visit the Wombat, head over to tag the highest point just outside the park (Eagle?s Nest, 4200?), see amazing views from the back side of the Monument area, First Kiss, and Monkey Face, and the entire back side of the Smith Rock group via a stroll along the river, and finally a scramble up to the highest parts of the official Smith Rock formation and descend via a 60 m free-hanging rappel .
This will be an all day medium-to-strenuous day of activities-- likely taking 12-14 hours. During the hike, we?ll be doing some exposed 4th class scrambling using a fixed line, short climb via top rope to access highest point, and rappelling three times.
There will be optional camping the evening following this event at a nearby campground.
