Activity Notes

Please be aware that you must be a Mazamas member to apply for climbs.

We plan on getting up early to try to reach the trailhead at 5:00 AM.  We will drive via Forest Service roads 24, 2419, and 019 to the lower Mount Ellinor trailhead at ~2700 ft.  If we start here we will ascend approximately 3200 ft.   If we can continue up we will try to reach the upper trailhead, which is located at about 3,500' and will shorten our trip. We will follow a hikers trail through beautiful older-growth forest to an open meadow at the base of the southeast chute.  Early on the season this chute may be filled with snow.  After ascending the chute to about the 5,700' level we will turn west to cross a basin, then climb the final slope to the summit.  We should be back to the cars by late afternoon.

As we climb, we acknowledge the people that were here before us. Eight tribes have traditional associations to lands now in Olympic National Park: Hoh, Jamestown S'Klallam, Elwha Klallam, Makah, Port Gamble S'Klallam, Quileute, Quinault and Skokomish.
