Hey SnakeDoges,

Now that you're all pooped out from climbing your butts off, less give you something more cerebral to challenge you!  We will now teach you how to use your map and compass.  Land navigation can seem like a huge obstacle at first, but you will see that with some training you can really get a lot out of it.  Modern GPS and other navigational apps, such as Gaia, are absolutely indispensible in their usefulness, and we will also cover their use in lectures, but what do you do if your battery runs dry or you have no signal?

There is a pretty banger introductory navigation course put together by the Mazamas.  This takes place on Mt. Tabor.  The entire introductory course should only take 2 hours or so to complete, so we'll do it on Friday night so it is fresh in your minds for the navigation session tomorrow!

Only gear needed is your map and class sheet (provided), a compass with adjustable declination (you must acquire), and shoes and clothes to keep you comfortable.  Sometime the light sets quickly so bring a headlamp just in case.

We will meet at the east side of reservoir 6 (point #1 on your map).
