In 2016, Katie Mills, Nick Pappas, and Todd Torres received a Bob Wilson Grant to travel to the far reaches of northern Alaska and seek the unclimbed rock of one of the last great climbing wildernesses, the Arrigetch Peaks. They journeyed through taiga, tundra, bogs, and unstable rock glaciers, braving hordes of mosquitoes and the constant threat of grizzly bears with three weeks worth of supplies on their backs. The team was rewarded with spectacular new climbing routes never before touched by human hands. This area is most often backpacked, not climbed, so those interested in finding more about hiking the area will enjoy the presentation as well. Join Katie and her team as they discuss the spectacular highs and the crushing lows of this challenging once in a lifetime trip. This presentation was originally given during the 2016 Portland Alpine Fest.
