Activity Notes

Redstone Peak is a challenging 3rd class climb with complex route finding near the summit.  It is located off the Northern Loop Trail in Mt Rainier National Park south of Lake James.  This is NOT a good first climb for recent BCEP graduates. Team members should have previous experience on at least 3 rock climbs.    I have not done this climb, so it will be exploratory- expect some adventurous confusion.  MRNP limits back country camping groups to a maximum of 5 people.

Itinerary:

Aug 17 AM: meet at Eleanor Creek parking lot on the north boundary of Mt Rainier National Park.  Backpack ~8 miles to the White River wilderness zone

Aug 18:  climb Redstone Peak (~3000' from camp) and return to camp.

Aug. 19: Walk out to cars and return to Portland, arriving late evening.

Round trip: ~19 miles, ~5900'
