From the Opal Creek trailhead, hike through old growth forest to the old town of Jawbone Flats. Along the way you will see remnants of past mining activity. From Jawbone Flats, follow the Kopetski Trail to Cedar Flats, passing several emerald pools and a waterfall. On the return by way of lollipop loop, encounter Opal Pool and Opal Pool Falls, before returning to the trailhead along the Little North Santiam River.

Follow the Little N. Santiam River past several waterfalls among huge old growth Doug fir &

red cedar. Visit Jawbone Flats, once a mining settlement now an educational retreat.Then on

to Cedar Flats and massive 10 - foot thick western red cedars. Visit stunning Opal Pool on

our way back. 10.5 miles with elevation gain approx. 1000'. Drive 187 R/T.
